Ambulance Aid Details

This seven week course is divided into three modules. Each week in each module adds to the previous weeks learning by introducing associated systems and techniques to build an overall target for the module and the course. As this structure builds on the preceding learning it can be seen why satisfactory progression is dependant on successful completion of the preceding stage. The modules in outline are as follows

Module one, three weeks

  • Patient assessment
  • Respiratory system
  • Cardiovascular system, including defibrillation
  • Unconscious casualties
  • Lifting & handling

Module two, two weeks

  • Skeletal system
  • Nervous system
  • Wounds & bleeding
  • Immobilisation & support
  • Head injuries
  • Spinal/pelvic injuries
  • Infectious diseases
  • Extrication and light rescue

Module three, two weeks

  • Multi-casualty situations
  • Digestive system
  • Diabetes
  • Death - Service procedures
  • Poisons/Solvents
  • Maternity
  • Extremes of body temperature

The list above is by no means comprehensive but gives an idea of the training undertaken and the approximate order in which it is delivered. Throughout the course there are theoretical assessments and lots, and I mean lots of practical assessments to reinforce the theoretical learning. The practical incidents can, and do, include anything that has been previously covered. Our training staff are very good at setting up these practical incidents and the multi-casualty scenarios are seriously daunting.
