Emergency Medical Dispatch Centre

In April 2002 the Scottish Ambulance Service, following an extensive period of Project Management, opened the first Emergency Medical Dispatch Centre (EMDC) in the South East Divisional Headquarters building at Oxgangs in Edinburgh. This was followed a year later by the opening of Inverness EMDC and finally, in April 2004 Paisley became the third and final EMDC which makes up the National control structure.?

What is an EMDC?

An EMDC is a state of the art control centre which utilises new technology to provide the focal point of the A&E service and it’s effectiveness is critical to achieving the highest standards of patient care and ensuring the Service meets the latest performance targets. The EMDC replaces the previous Control or Operations room and employs highly trained Emergency Medical Dispatchers and Call Takers using the most up to date technology to ensure that Ambulance resources are deployed effectively and efficiently while at all times maintaining the highest standards of patient care.
